One Day In Kauai - Waimea Canyon & Wailua River Tour (Bus/Airplane)

Description

Start your morning with complimentary transportation from your Waikiki hotel to the Honolulu International Airport, where you'll catch your interisland flight on Hawaiian Airlines, a commercial jet, to Lihue, Kauai.

Our tour representative will meet you at the Honolulu Airport to make sure you make your flight on time (airfare included). Flight time from Honolulu to Lihue is approximately 35 minutes.

After landing on Kauai, meet our friendly, knowledgeable driver-guide and climb aboard our luxury, air-conditioned mini-coach for a magical sightseeing tour of the island! Enjoy the drive along Route 580, which provides gorgeous views of the Wailua River. We'll make several 5-10 minute photostops along the route for a good leg stretch and restroom breaks.

Onward and upward! We'll drive up to 3,400 feet to see the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" - Waimea Canyon! The canyon is 10 miles long, 1 mile wide, and more than 3,500-feet deep. It was carved thousands of years ago by rivers and floods that flowed from Mount Waialeale's summit.

See Russian Fort Elizabeth, the only Russian "stronghold" in Hawaii. The structure grew from a defense agreement between the ruling chief of Kauai and the Russian-American Company. By the time the fort was complete the islands of Hawaii had been united under Kamehameha, and the Russians were expelled from Kauai.

As we cruise along the southern coast, we'll drive through Poipu, a resort getaway for those in the know and home the Spouting Horn. This natural wonder occurs when water rushes under a lava shelf and bursts through a small opening at the surface, making an eerie hissing noise.

The ancient Hawaiians believed that Kaikapu, a lizard goddess, was trapped by a clever fisherman and that the hissing sound was her angry roar. Spouting Horn frequently spurts salt water 50 feet into the air.

View the Koloa Sugar Mill. This old sugar mill is a daily reminder of years past, when sugar was the primary cash crop on Kauai and Koloa was the bustling center of it all.

Afterwards, head back toward the Wailua River for your Wailua River Cruise (admission included)! This is the only river boat trip in all of Hawaii! Sail up this historic, sacred river takes for about 40 minutes (one way) on a long, flat-bottom boat.

Your tour then heads north to the famous Fern Grotto. While we cruise toward the Grotto, discover a multitude of photo opportunities, including the tropical grasslands lining the river and the cloud-capped Mt. Waialeale looming in the background.

Once we dock at Fern Grotto, make the short, paved walk from the dock to the grotto. This is considered the most romantic place on Kauai and serves as the setting for many weddings. Stop for about 30-minutes and listen to live Hawaiian entertainment at the amphitheatre.

From a path along the highway, our guide will point out Opaekaa Falls. There are shrimp that live in the pools beneath the falls but only emerge from their hiding places at night!

Please be aware that the order in which we stop at various sites is subject to change based on traffic and weather conditions. But no worries - we'll ensure that you see everything!

Sightseeing Highlights:

  • Waimea Canyon
  • View Russian Fort
  • Spouting Horn
  • South coast Poipu Resort
  • Koloa Sugar Mill
  • Nawiliwili Harbor
  • Cruise the Wailua River
  • Fern Grotto
  • Coco Palms Grove
  • Birth Stone
  • Opaekaa Falls
After a long day of sightseeing, enjoy a relaxing flight back to Honolulu with complimentary transportation to your Waikiki hotel.

TSA Security Info: The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requires you to enter the following for each traveler: full name (as it appears on passport or government issued ID) and date of birth.  Failure to provide this information could result in additional TSA screening.

Due to the extreme popularity of this 1-day tour, a minimum 10-day advance booking is required. Anything booked within 10 days will be subject to availability.
Once reservation is made, tour is Non-Refundable and Non-Changeable.

THE NAMES GIVEN TO US MUST BE EXACTLY AS THEY APPEAR ON EACH PASSENGER'S PHOTO I.D.

Our Interisland Air Carriers will deny boarding if the passenger's legal name, as shown on their valid, government-issued ID, does not match the name on their Voucher. This is a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and FAA requirement. Air Carriers proven to be non-compliant are subject to severe penalties; thus, there is no flexibility with this policy.

You will be REQUIRED to show a picture ID to board the plane. Passengers denied boarding due to their lack of proper identification will be subject to a 100% no-show cancellation penalty.

Please Note:

Air travelers may now carry liquids, gels & aerosols in their carry-on bag when going through security checkpoints. With certain exceptions for prescription and over-the-counter medicines, baby formula/breast milk & other essential liquids, gels & aerosols, the following rules apply to all liquids, gels & aerosols you want to carry through a security checkpoint.

Make Your Trip Better Using 3-1-1
3–1–1 for carry-ons = 3 ounce bottle or less; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3 oz. container size is a security measure.

Consolidate bottles into one bag and X-ray separately to speed screening. Be prepared. Each time TSA searches a carry-on it slows down the line. Practicing 3-1-1 will ensure a faster and easier checkpoint experience.

Declare larger liquids. Prescription medications, baby formula & milk are allowed in quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint.

Our day tour to Kauai was absolutely awesome! The weather was sunny most of the day until around 2:30 and it rained for most of our river tour but stopped when we got of the boat to walk back to the Grotto and didnt start raining again until we got back on the boat, how lucky we were. I would defnitely recommend the Kauai day tour.

Awesome trip, awesome tour guide, beautiful sites, very willing to stop so you can get that must-have shot. Showed us some of the Coco Palms (from Blue Hawaii w/ Elvis) as it stands today after the devastating Hurricane Iniki hit it. Small but fun group and very personal. Kauai was the most beautiful of the 4 major islands that I saw. This is a can't miss trip, by far my favorite!

It was definitely worth doing. The group was small enough that we all had a great time together. I had a wonderful time and the overall experience was a great one. The scenery was gorgeous and our tour guide did a wonderful job driving and giving us so much history and background throughout the day.
